Two Generations Of Reasons To Build More Accessible Sites

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

A post over at Threadwatch just caught my attention. Of course with a title like Web 2.0, Dude, Who Cares, Where’s Phone 2.0? how could it not grab attention? The reason I’m writing about it though, is not because of its catchy title, but because of the implications for building sites that are more accessible and work over a variety devices beyond a computer monitor.

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Earlier today I came across the article, Should Writers Be Held Accountable for Web Page Performance?. Can any one person or aspect of your site be held accountable when it’s not performing the way you’d like?

IE7 And Firefox 2.0: What Do The New Browsers Mean For Developers And SEOs?

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

I’m not planning on reviewing either since chances are we’ll all be upgrading at some point, but I do want to talk about what the new versions of each browser will likely mean for web developers and SEOs.

A Tale Of Two Design Philosophies: Consistency Vs Wow

Monday, July 24th, 2006

This morning I read an interesting article courtesy of the New York Times comparing the approaches of Google and Yahoo when it comes to releasing new applications. Yahoo’s approach has been to maintain consistency across it’s various products where Google has usually gone after the ‘wow’ factor when releasing something new. Most of us aren’t Google or Yahoo though, and the two philosophies has gotten me thinking about designs in our own smaller sites, particularly this site, and if either approach is better than the other.

Fixed Or Liquid Design

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

One of the first choices you’ll invariably make when it comes to designing your website is whether to use a fixed or liquid layout. Both design options have their pros and cons along with their supporters and detractors. Firefox Extensions For Web Developers

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

One of the main benefits of the Firefox web browser is the active development community that continues to allow new features to be added through extensions. You can find extensions to Firefox that help with many aspects of your web browsing experience. Extensions though can turn Firefox into something more than a simple or enhanced web browser. Web developers can find many that will increase productivity and help get projects done quicker.

Content Is King

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Earlier today I came across a table on the ZDNet blog listing the top 10 visited sites for the month of February, 2006. None of the sites on the list will shock you at all. They’re some of the major players on the web and if I asked you to make your own top site list before seeing this one you’d probably include 7 or 8 of them on your list.
