Friday, February 15th, 2008

You know those weeks where it seems like everything goes wrong. No matter what you do life throws a few more curveballs at you than usual and the outcome of everything seems to be the one you didn’t want. I know you’ve had those weeks. We all have them. I’m having one this week. What do you do when you have one of those weeks?

Help Save Michael The Cat

Monday, January 21st, 2008

What would you do if while hiking you discovered a lost cat clearly in need of help? Would you coax it off the road and out of harms way? What would you then do as it followed you home? Would you take it in? Would you bring it to a veterinarian for medical attention? What if the cat’s medical expenses were more than you thought they would be? Would you pay the bills without thinking twice? Forrest did all of that and a little more and now he can use a little of your help

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Every year on the day before Thanksgiving my mom, my brother, and myself trek into Manhattan for the day. We take in some exhibits at the museums, walk through the city, eat at out favorite pizza place, and catch the floats for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade being inflated. You’ve likely seen the parade and the floats at one time or another, but I thought you’d like to see the view behind the scenes before everyone is ready for the march down Central Park West.

In Memory - 9/11/01

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Today marks the 6th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. I was living nearly 2,000 miles from the events on that day, but I grew up in New York and have many, many friends and family still living in the area. To paraphrase a bit, you can take the boy out of New York, but you can’t take New York out of the boy. I am and always will be a New Yorker and the events of that day six years ago hit closer to home than the physical distance between us.

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

The first Monday in September is Labor Day here in the U.S. as I’m sure most of you know. Unlike most holidays Labor Day honors the average worker and this year the average American worker gets to celebrate a little more after the International Labor Organization declared us the most productive workers in the world for 2006.

For those of you in the U.S. happy 4th of July. For everyone else I hope you have a good Wednesday. I’ve been guest posting all week at eMonetized, one of the blogs run by Tim Schroeder, who I’m sure many of you know. Here are links to the three posts I’ve written so far this week with a fourth one coming tomorrow.

Say A Prayer For Virginia Tech Tonight

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Some days we’re reminded that there are more important things. Today was one of those days. By now you’ve undoubtedly seen reports of a gunman killing 32 Virginia Tech students and then himself early this morning. A few hours ago I sat down to write a typical post, but decided it will need to wait till tomorrow. Some things are more important.

I’m Glad I Went To Bed Hungry Last Night

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

What does going to bed without dinner have to do with running a business?

I did have dinner, but I was feeling hungry late last night, a little too late to have something to eat. It brought back memories of a few years ago when I really did have to go to bed hungry most nights. I’m not complaining and for most of my life having enough food has never been a problem or even a concern, but for a time I couldn’t afford as much food as I should have been eating. I’d lay down most nights and listen to my stomach crying softly for sustenance. I’d wonder if tomorrow I would be able to afford dinner. I watched myself lose 30 pounds in a few short months. Don’t worry I’ve put it all back on in the years since.
