I’m Glad I Went To Bed Hungry Last Night

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

What does going to bed without dinner have to do with running a business?

I did have dinner, but I was feeling hungry late last night, a little too late to have something to eat. It brought back memories of a few years ago when I really did have to go to bed hungry most nights. I’m not complaining and for most of my life having enough food has never been a problem or even a concern, but for a time I couldn’t afford as much food as I should have been eating. I’d lay down most nights and listen to my stomach crying softly for sustenance. I’d wonder if tomorrow I would be able to afford dinner. I watched myself lose 30 pounds in a few short months. Don’t worry I’ve put it all back on in the years since.

Prohibition Deja Vu? U.S. Says No To Online Gambling

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Over the weekend congress quietly approved a bill that effectively makes online betting illegal in the United States. The bill makes it illegal for U.S banks and credit card companies to make payments to online gambling sites. The legislation was added to an unrelated bill by Republican Representative Jim Leach of Iowa. While not a big gambler myself this law is ridiculous and a slap in the face to civil liberty.

Is YouOS The Future Of Operating Systems?

Friday, August 18th, 2006

It’s the end of another week and I thought I’d leave everyone with something to play around with over the weekend. That is assuming you end up spending some time at the computer on the off days like I tend to do. About a week ago I came across a site offering an alpha version of a web operating system called YouOS and it looks pretty impressive.

Temporary Absence

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

I may be absent from this blog for a few days. My stepfather has taken ill and is in the hospital and I have flown to New York to visit with him and my family for a few days.

As soon as I am back in Colorado which I think will be sometime later in the week I’ll get back to my normal routine and begin posting again.

The Business Behind The Domain

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Edit: As with the previous post this post references the yellowhousehosting.com domain, which I am no longer using for this blog.

This business is named after a Van Gogh painting. You may or may not know the painting “The Yellow House” which for a time was Vincent’s home. When Van Gogh moved into his yellow house he envisioned it as more than the place where he would dwell while he painted the countryside in the south of France. He saw it as a place where fellow artists would come to learn, to share, and to paint. He saw his yellow house as a home for artists where they could feel part of a community.

Dear Vincent

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Edit: I originally had this entire blog hosted under the domain yellowhousehosting.com. The Van in Van SEO Design is short for Vangogh and so other than references to an old domain the following thoughts still apply.

Welcome to my blog. I suppose you may be wondering who Vincent is and why this post is addressed to him. Vincent is Vincent Van Gogh and much of this site is inspired by him. The site and business name was taken from one of his paintings, ‘The Yellow House’ which is where Vincent lived in Arles in the south of France.
