Help Fight Poverty With A Single Blog Post: Blog Action Day

Do You want to help put an end to poverty around the world?

All it takes to help is participation in Blog Action Day with a single post on October 15th about poverty.

I’m a little late with the news and you may already be aware of some of the bloggers who will be participating, but some things are important enough to talk about even if you’re not the first to mention it.

If you’re unfamiliar with the event:

Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.

By doing so on the same day, the blogging community effectively changes the conversation on the web and focuses audiences around the globe on that issue.

Last year I participated with a post about global warming for the topic of the environment. As an individual researching the topic I learned much more than I had previously known. Even more, in reading many of the posts from around the blogosphere my awareness on a variety of environmental issues was raised.

We’ll all learn by participating and we’ll all learn through the participation of others.

Hopefully this year we’ll all better understand the causes of poverty and better yet become more aware of potential solutions for eliminating it around the world.

3. Promote - Help spread the word about Blog Action Day 2008

If you happen to be fluent in both English and another language, you can also volunteer to help with translations.

What Should You Write About?

The only requirement is that you write about poverty. What you write is completely up to you. Blog Action Day recommends you stay on topic with your blog, but the more important part is to promote the conversation.

The best thing a blog can do is to keep their post on topic. Audiences visit our blogs because they enjoy the style, personality and topic of the site. So it makes sense that the best way to get through to these audiences is to use that same style, personality and topic to talk about Poverty.
