Sorry for the delay in replying to your question. I decided to write a post in response since I had plenty to say.

Recently, I have discovered the giving your content away idea, and wondered a few points.

I was searching about for some ideas, does the content have to meet up with sites content ideas.

For example, If a blog normally covers certain content (SEO) does the guest blogger have to cover those topics, can they cover using Photoshop for web design(for example)?

I'm glad you provided a different perspective. It's important for everyone to remember that there is more than one road to success. And it gave me an idea for another blog post.

Good point, too about sticking with things. I think a big reason why many fail to get where they want to go is giving up too soon.

Thanks Adam. I remember that post by Maki. He built his audience mostly through social media like he says. I agree it shows that there's more than one way to build traffic into a site.

Do you read Skellie's blog? She built much of her success through guest blogging. The road to me subscribing to her blog was similar to what made me subscribe to Chris Garrett's blog.

With both of them I just kept coming across quality content on a variety of blogs in a relatively short period of time. You read a few great posts by the same person over a couple of weeks you eventually find their blog and subscribe.

The funny thing is I had seen your post on Dave's site shortly before I sat down to write this one. Cool that it's already led to another opportunity.

The same for me with direct traffic. I think the majority of guest posts I've done didn't drive a lot of direct traffic right away, but most will drive a few visitors month after month.

It usually won't be the first post you write that will bring you the attention. It's a series of posts you write.

That's how I've come across most of the blogs I subscribe to as well. I only mentioned Chris' blog in the post, but the majority of blogs I read first came to my attention through another blog I already read.

I'm glad I was able to contribute and make things better. I agree completely about the power of brand, which is a major reason why I think guest posting is a good strategy for growth.

Good post, and there is truth here.

But there is always more than 1 path to success.

DoshDosh.com offers the other perspective:

Great timing on this post Steven. I donated a guest post to Dave's site yesterday (first commenter on this post). I didn't see a whole lot of direct traffic, but those who did come were well recognised in the industry. They happened to Stumble other articles I had recently written and I had a great day for traffic! And it's already led to another guest post opportunity.

Share the love people :)
