Lists can be a great form of Link Bait. Whether it’s top 10, top 20, top 100, or top 342, if the list can provide something valuable or some useful resources it will probably attract links. People love top lists and are drawn to them and will link to the to draw others as well. There’s something irresistible about top 10 lists.

Google Webmaster Central
In case you missed it, Google recently re branded Sitemaps and added a few things to what is now Google Webmaster Central. There have been a few mentions of the change, but with many seo bloggers at S.E.S. San Jose the change has fallen somewhere below the radar. I signed up with an account for this post and can report the revamped Webmaster Central looks pretty good after a quick look.
Does Anyone Still Use One Word Searches?
Does anyone still use one word searches? Well I know I still do on occasion and I’m sure I’m not the only one, but according to OneStat.com most of us are using a one word search phrase less and less often. So why would anyone want to optimize pages for one word anymore? Does anyone still optimize for one word?
Yet Another Matt Cutts Video Post
Yes it’s yet one more post about the Matt Cutts Videos. You’re probably sick of hearing me talk about them all week so I promise this will be the last. I’ll even do my best to refrain from mentioning his name for awhile, though of course now that I have he’ll probably release the Google algorithm over the weekend. I suppose if he does you won’t mind one more mention.
The .edu and .gov myth?
One of the theories that has been gaining ground and generating discussion in the seo community is that links from .edu and .gov sites carry more weight. The main theory goes that since both domains have requirements in order to get one that the search engines consider them a more trustworthy link. But is that really the case? Are .edu and .gov domains better than the ordinary .coms and .nets of the world? Not according to Matt Cutts.
