Design and Development Rates

Every website is unique and because each site is unique it can be difficult to accurately answer the question ‘how much will my website cost’ prior to knowing the requirements you have for your site. But since you asked I’ll do my best to let you know how much you might expect to spend.

I’m used to working with small businesses on a low budget and I understand that sometimes no matter how much you’d like to spend there’s only so much you’re able to spend. I’ll do my best to work with you to give you the most site I can within your budget.

Design and Development

I base the cost of your project on my hourly rates and the estimated time it will take to complete your site.

Hourly Rates

  • Visual Design: $100/hr
  • Site Development: $100/hr
  • Application Development: $125/hr

Time Estimate

While the time estimate for your project will vary based on the project details. I’ll do my best to generalize a few things. As I describe in my design process most of the work in designing and developing a site goes into creating the first page that is then used as a template for the rest of the site.

The time to create a 10 page site is not much more than the time to create a 3 pages site. Most of the work in either case will go into creating the visual design and using that design to develop the single page template.

Experience has taught me the visual design and template will take between 12 and 20 hours depending somewhat on the design requrements.

Beyond the initial template each page generally averages about half an hour each to build. Some will take less, some will take more, but a half hour seems to be a reasonable estimate for an average page.

Again it’s important to remember every site is different. Your site might require a single look for the home page and then an additional look and template for various section pages.

The best way to find out what your particular project will cost is simply to contact me and ask. The more details you can provide about your project the more accurate I can be in the estimate.

Website Management

If you anticipate very few changes throughout the year it makes more sense to stick with per project pricing, but if you see your site needing updates and additions more often, then website management rates will make more sense.

The win for you is a savings in money. As you pay monthly hours in advance I lower my average rate per hour. For one hour of time you pay the rates above. As the hours increase my rates go down.

Over the years I’ve tracked the time and spending of several clients. In all cases those clients who chose to pay in advance for hours saved considerably. I’m not a stickler on time. If you commit to 10 hours a month I won’t stop working as soon as the 10 hours are up. You won’t get 20 hours of my time, but you’ll certainly get 12.

The win for me is in being able to better budget my own finances and eliminating non-billable hours putting together an estimate for each project.

Please contact me to discuss your project requirements and pricing.
