I did see that article last night.

I also came across these two from SEOmoz and Wolf-Howl.

<a href="http://www.seomoz.org/blogdetail.php?ID=1652" rel="nofollow">Paid Links That Are Truly Undetectable</a>
<a href="http://www.wolf-howl.com/seo/googles-policy-on-no-follow-and-reviews-is-hypocritical-and-wrong/" rel="nofollow">Google’s Policy on No follow and Reviews is Hypocritical and Wrong</a>

I think there are some links that will always be undetectable, but as the network of interlinking sites grows it inevitably leaves some kind of footprint that makes it detectable. It may not be easy to detect, but if you can collect data on the scale of a search engine it can be detected.

The links will be undetectable only if they very very closely follow the pattern of natural linking, such as linking to other sites on the same topic, to sites of the relatively same sizes and such.

Thanks Brett. I do think John and Jeff are onto something good that's going to benefit advertisers and bloggers. It's one of those ideas that as soon as you hear it you think 'Of course, why didn't I think of that.' They've certainly found the best kind of links to buy and and sell.

I agree with you that Google and the other engines will see this as something manipulative and will do what they can to find a footprint they can use to de-weight these links. I imagine in time they will, but it won't be easy and by then V7N may very well have come up with a way to further obscure any footprint the program leaves.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out and in the end even if the contextual links are de-weighted in the algorithm they may still drive targeted traffic directly if the match between advertiser and blogger is a good one.

Great review and description of this new service and all the potentially perceived quagmires. I'd agree with your perspective and your projections.

Sounds like a business that will take off, and Google will do its best to stay mostly ahead of the heard.
