Thanks for the compliments Richard. I've actually been blogging for awhile, but in the beginning I think I was mostly blogging to myself.

I agree. I was just having a similar conversation with someone on a forum. When you try to please everyone you end up pleasing no one. Most of us don't need to appeal to all. If we can identify the people we want to work with and want to work with us we'll be fine.

Thanks again.

Hey Steven,

Great post and love your writing style and if this is the new site great work if not well look forward to seeing what is around the corner.

I see so many people trying to be everything to everyone and wonder why they are nothing to anyone! No definition of ideal client = death by starvation!

Cheers

Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Yep. Understanding your market is the first step to success. You can learn along the way and make improvements as you go, but the better you can understand who your customer, visitor, etc is the better chance you have to succeed.

I hear you about the impersonal stuff. I have to admit that my pages here outside the blog are probably a little too impersonal at the moment. I thought that’s how they should be when I wrote them a few years back, but that will all be changed with a new design that’s coming shortly.

Excellent article, if we take the time to think about the thoughts and concerns of the visitors of our sites we’ll begin to understand them.

Understanding brings clarity as to why they will or will not get involoved in what you’re offering.

You are correct about just being yourself. The web can be so impersonal and yet people go online to connect!
