I'm glad you liked the post. You may want to grab the book, <a href="http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Non-Designers-Design-Book/Robin-Williams/e/9780321534040/" rel="nofollow">The Non-Designer's Design Book</a> by Robin Williams.

It covers the basic ideas of contrast, repetition, alignment, a proximity in much greater detail, with much better examples. It's a great book and I highly recommend it. Guarantee you'll learn a lot about design.

Thanks Sanjay. I started out on the development side as well and have been teaching myself design principles for awhile and thought others could benefit from that teaching as well.

I think many of us designing and developing websites began from the development side and can use some design theory.

[...] Proximity groups elements within a hierarchy and creates new sub hierarchies. Your home page has three offers for different products or services. Each might have a heading, a descriptive paragraph, an image, and a link to more information. The specific design elements would be on a different hierarchical level, but each offer (by containing the same 4 elements) connects the offers as being at the same hierarchical level.
